Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has drawn comparisons between his latest film Nishaanchi and Sinners, stating that the visual effects work in his project stands stronger than that of the Oscar-nominated Hollywood title.

Anurag Kashyap calls Nishaanchi’s VFX better than Oscar-nominated Sinners; lauds Sylvester and Red ChilliesIn an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Kashyap spoke about evolving filmmaking techniques and the changing work culture he has observed, particularly in the South Indian film industry. “Working with other filmmakers, I am seeing this new style of working. It is coming in, and it is everywhere in the South. They shoot, and they edit right there… They shoot a scene a day; they don’t do shots,” he said.

Speaking about the technical challenges of Nishaanchi, Kashyap highlighted the complexity of staging a double role with heavy reliance on visual effects. “For me, both parts of Nishaanchi, with special effects, with the actor playing two different kinds of a double role, which I am very proud of, what Sylvester and Red Chillies have achieved. I can very proudly say that it is better than Sinners. They are really two different people, and we shot two months apart. It was not like. ‘Change your shirt and come.’ It was all real,” he added.

Nishaanchi marks Kashyap’s return to the morally layered crime drama space that defined several of his earlier works. The film introduces Aaishvary Thackeray in a dual role as twin brothers Babloo and Dabloo, whose lives diverge into a turbulent narrative of crime, love and revenge. The ensemble cast includes Vedika Pinto, Monika Panwar, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Kumud Mishra. The film is produced by Ajay Rai and Ranjan Singh under Jar Pictures in association with Flip Films, and co-written by Kashyap alongside Prasoon Mishra and Ranjan Chandel.

Meanwhile, Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler, has emerged as a major contender at the 98th Academy Awards with 16 nominations, including Best Picture. Coogler is nominated for Best Director and Best Screenplay, while Michael B Jordan earned his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor.
