Mumbai Climate Week 2026 commenced on an impactful note on February 17 as actor, producer and UN Goodwill Ambassador Dia Mirza took part in the inaugural session of the summit in Mumbai. The opening day saw participation from climate leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs and sustainability advocates from across India and the Global South.

The discussion focused on collaborative strategies to address climate challenges and the role of innovation in building sustainable futures.

Speaking about the importance of such global platforms, Dia Mirza said, “Climate action is no longer a distant policy conversation. It is about the air we breathe, the water we depend on, and the dignity of communities already living with climate impact. Platforms like Mumbai Climate Week create the courage and collaboration we need to turn urgency into accountability and innovation into inclusion.”

Later in the day, Dia introduced representatives from The Earthshot Prize, the environmental award founded by Prince William to accelerate solutions to pressing environmental problems. Attendees were shown a special video message from Prince William, who highlighted the importance of global partnerships and acknowledged India’s growing leadership in climate innovation.

Organised by Project Mumbai in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the three-day summit is being hosted at the Jio World Cultural Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex. The event features conversations around sustainability, renewable energy, electric mobility and climate resilience, along with several city-wide engagements planned through the week.

Beyond policy discussions, the summit has also drawn attention for bringing together prominent public figures, global foundations and changemakers under one roof, adding a strong public and cultural dimension to the climate conversation. With Mumbai increasingly positioned as a key voice in urban sustainability, the event reflects the growing intersection of civic action and celebrity advocacy in shaping environmental awareness.

With participation from civic bodies, industry leaders, grassroots organisations and international institutions, Mumbai Climate Week aims to strengthen the city’s role as a significant hub for climate dialogue and action in South Asia.
