India is now the only team to win the T20 World Cup three times, and the first to win successive editions.
“Phenomenal win for Team India in Ahmedabad. Absolutely no match for the explosive cricket played by us throughout the tournament. Brilliant character shown by the boys to keep fighting in tough situations and become world champions once again. Congratulations to all the players and all the members of the management for achieving this feat,” Kohli wrote on social media.
Kohli retired after India’s T20 World Cup win in 2024. He had won Player of the Match award in the final for his 77-run innings after India had lost early wickets.
The 36-year-old announced his retirement from Tests a year later, calling time on an illustrious career that spanned 14 years.
