What are the main reasons for AC not cooling, let us know…
Filter and coil being dirty
The biggest reason is the dust accumulated in the AC filter and the inner coil (cooling coil). When the filters get blocked, cold air cannot come in. AC just keeps blowing air but does not provide cooling.
low on gas (refrigerant)
If the gas in the AC leaks or gets reduced then it is unable to cool. The room does not cool down even at 24 degrees. This problem occurs more in old ACs.
AC smaller than room size
If the room is big and the AC is of low tonnage (like 1 ton AC for 120-150 sq ft room) then it will not be able to cool the entire room.
heat entering the room
Windows and doors remain open, curtains are not installed, direct sunlight falls on the roof, or there is no good insulation in the room. If the hot air from outside keeps coming in, the AC is unable to cool.
Fan speed and mode incorrect
Many times people turn it on ‘fan mode’ or keep the fan speed very high. This makes you feel less cold.
AC outdoor unit in hot place
If the outdoor unit is in direct sunlight or in a closed area, it may not function properly.
How to fix the problem?
- Clean the AC filter every 15-20 days.
- Get professional servicing done once a year.
- Place thick curtains on the windows of the room and keep the windows closed in the evening.
- Keep the AC on ‘Cool Mode’ at 24°C and fan speed on ‘Auto’ or Medium.
- If there is less gas then call the technician immediately.
- Use AC of right capacity considering the size of the room.
Even though the AC is running at 24 degrees, the room not being cool is not a major problem. In most cases, this problem occurs due to dirt, lack of gas or heat from the room. If you clean the AC regularly, get it serviced and protect the room from heat, then the AC will provide good cooling and electricity will also be less.
Enjoy the cool breeze in summer, but also take proper care of the AC. If the problem persists even after taking the above mentioned measures, then call a good technician and get it checked.
