EV Charging Precautions: Recently a fire broke out while charging an e-bike in a society in Noida. This is not the first incident and it raises the question as to what precautions should be taken while charging at home, so that such accidents can be avoided.
Many precautions are necessary for charging e-scooter at home.
Experts related to EV industry and charging say that it is important for people to have complete information about the vehicle before purchasing it. To avoid such accidents, the customer should get complete information from the dealer at the time of purchasing the car about what things and equipment will be required to charge it at home. The most important thing is whether the electricity connection installed at home can bear the load of charging the e-vehicle or not. If there is a connection with low load and you charge an EV on it, then there is a possibility of an accident due to increase in load.
Is caution necessary if charging at home?
- Experts say that to charge an electric vehicle at home, it is important that the charger be installed by trained technicians.
- This charger should be properly connected to a dedicated electric circuit.
- For charging the e-vehicle, connection should not be provided by connecting extensions or additional wires. One should avoid using adapter for such charger.
- Only 55 percent of EV owners in the country have a proper charger. This is the reason why incidents of accidents often occur during charging.
What equipment is required for EV charging?
- Experts say that to install EV charging, miniature circuit breakers (MCB) and residual current circuit breakers (RCCB) must be installed.
- There should be proper earthing for this connection and the connection should be at a place where there is no moisture and no possibility of water logging.
- The most important thing is that vehicle owners should always use the same charger which has been provided to them by the company.
- If there is burning smell, cable damage or any problem in the wiring during charging, then you should immediately contact the technician or company.
