Highest run chases in Youth ODIs: England falters in chasing record target in U19 World Cup final

India set England a target of 412 runs in the final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 at the Harare Cricket Ground on Friday.

England folded for 311 runs in the 41st over. Had it shot the total down, it would have been the highest run chase in Under-19 cricket. The current record belongs to Sri Lanka, which chased 316 against England in 2016. In an Under-19 World Cup match, the highest target shot down is 311, pulled off by India in its semifinal against Afghanistan earlier this week.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi blazed his way to an 80-ball 175 to set the platform for India. When he was dismissed in the 26th over, India had already posted more than 250 runs. Ayush Mhatre also contributed with a 51-ball 53. India’s lower middle-order chipped in with handy cameos to nudge India past the 400-run mark.

Caleb Falconer fought till the end with his 67-ball 115 but could not get England over the line in the end. The title win was a record-extending sixth win for India.
