England beats Scotland to claim first win over a European country in T20 World Cups

England broke the duck against European nations in T20 World Cups after beating Scotland during the 2026 edition on Saturday.

Tom Banton led with an unbeaten half-century as the English chased down 153 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Before this victory, England had faltered thrice against European sides in the T20 showpiece.

The first time England faced a European team in the T20 World Cup was in the 2009 edition against the Netherlands, where it lost by four wickets at Lord’s.

The English faced the Netherlands again, in the 2014 edition in Bangladesh, only to lose by 45 runs at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong.

During the 2022 edition in Australia, England lost to Ireland by five runs (DLS) in Melbourne to suffer a third loss against European sides.

Moreover, there were two no results against Ireland (2010) and Scotland (2024) due to rain.
