Car Tire care Tips: Be it a car or a bike, your biggest safety on the road is determined by tyres. But most of the people change the tire when it gets completely worn out or starts getting punctured. Now auto experts are discussing a special “5 year rule”, which can be costly to ignore. This rule states that just looking at the thickness of the tire is not enough, because many times a tire that looks fit from outside is weak from inside. In such a situation, Salim, a bike-car mechanic from Prayagraj, has explained the rules for correct use of tyres.

According to mechanic Salim, if a tire completes 5 years of use, then it becomes very important to get it checked regularly. Even if the tire looks new and has good grip, the quality of the rubber starts weakening over time. Sun, heat, rain and hot road surface gradually harden the tire rubber. Due to this, fine cracks start appearing in the tyre, which are often not even visible to the eye.

Auto mechanics say that many people become happy just by seeing the tread depth. That is, if the grip of the tire looks fine, then it is considered safe. But after 5 years, the inner layer can become weak, due to which the risk of tire burst while driving increases. Old tires can pose a greater risk, especially at high speed on the highway.

The method of knowing the age of a tire is also very easy. DOT code is written on the side of every tire. Its last four digits tell in which week and which year the tire was manufactured. For example, if “3922” is written in the code, it means that the tire was manufactured in the 39th week of 2022. From this you can guess his age.

Another important thing is that not only the tires but also the tread of the vehicle can get old and get damaged. Many people do not check the spare tire for years, while experts say that its rubber also weakens with time.

People are also sharing their experiences regarding old tires on social media and auto forums. Many users say that even in low mileage vehicles, tires start getting cracked after 5-6 years. Some people advise that if tires are 6 to 10 years old, it is safer to replace them.

If the tires of your car are old, do not trust just by looking outside. Getting it checked by a professional from time to time and changing tires if necessary is considered the biggest key to safe driving.
