Anthropic opens Bengaluru office, expands India partnerships across sectors

AI company Anthropic has opened a new office in Bengaluru. It also revealed partnerships spanning enterprise software, education and public-interest technology as it deepens its presence in one of its fastest-growing markets.

The company said India is now its second-largest market for its Claude AI assistant, with a significant portion of domestic usage tied to coding, system modernisation and other technical workloads. The Bengaluru team will focus on supporting enterprises and startups deploying AI tools into production systems.

“India represents one of the most promising opportunities to bring responsible AI to a broad base of users,” said Irina Ghose, managing director for Anthropic India. She added that the country’s developer ecosystem and digital infrastructure make it a key testing ground for large-scale AI adoption.

Among the partnerships, Air India is using Anthropic’s coding tools to speed up internal software development, while education nonprofit Pratham is piloting AI-enabled assessment systems in schools serving lower-income communities.

“AI tools can help extend learning support to students who lack access to advanced resources,” said Pratham Co-founder Madhav Chavan.

Anthropic is also collaborating with EkStep Foundation on agriculture-focused AI applications and supporting Adalat AI to improve access to court information through automated language and document tools.

Separately, the company highlighted growing adoption of its open Model Context Protocol under the Linux Foundation, including commercial integrations by firms such as Swiggy.

Anthropic said the new Bengaluru office — its second in Asia — will expand hiring and partnerships as AI deployment accelerates across Indian enterprises and public-sector initiatives.
